i was invited to make a work during the Midnight Run, a night-time cultural event created by writer and artist Inua Ellams, as part of UNESCO's International Year of Light.
Rather than making a work that existed solely within the confines of the event itself, I decided to use the opportunity to continue a strand of my work that has been developing over the past few years: making films in public places at night time, with people who do not work with moving image in a professional capacity. Participants in the MNR operated equipment after only a brief demonstration; took part as performers, in unscripted scenes; helped generally with the logistics of making a film whilst constantly moving, overnight. Saabeah Aforo-Addo (the film's central performer) and I developed the narrative as we went along, building upon a rough plan made the day before.
The work is now in post production, and an excerpt will be posted on this page when it is finished.
